ADOLESCENTS

Being a teen today can feel overwhelming. They are balancing constant stressors including academic expectations, social pressures, family expectations, and challenging relationships.

Many teens may find it difficult to manage their emotions while surrounded by these overwhelming circumstances, and we hope to be a resource and support for the teens in our community.

There are a number of reasons why a teenager would come to counseling, some of the most common reasons are:

  • Relationship issues

  • Anxiety and worry

  • Depressed mood

  • Low motivation

  • Curiosity about gender and sexuality

  • Low self-confidence

  • Family relationship concerns

  • Divorce support

  • Upcoming transitions (high school to college)

  • Disordered eating or eating disorders

A Note about Confidentiality:

As a parent, it makes sense that you want to support your teen in their counseling journey. We are so glad you are helping them in taking the step to speak with a counselor.

It feels important for us to create a welcoming and trusted space where the teen can process freely, without the fear of consequences. In hopes to respect their privacy, we keep a rule to not disclose the details of what’s shared in session. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule, and we will be quick to communicate if we find there is any risk of safety, for themselves or others.
